It's been awhile since I last posted. I decided to step back from the game after too many annoyances with a single story line quest. I was angry and irritated, and maybe on too much caffeine at the time. Basically, I didn't want to give a bad review or shout out against a game I absolutely love just because of a few "issues" that might be minor.
I don't want to spoil the actual story line so I'll keep in basic. I made it 3/4 through Egypt's story quests. I ended up at a boss battle that involved waves of mobs. It was a solo event. I thought "hey, I like a challenge."
Five days later I am pulling my hair out. I couldn't progress. I just couldn't. I thought it might be a bug. I made an inquiry to the in game support and was told that they couldn't do it for me. Seriously? After 5 days I don't want you to do it for me. I wanted a yes or no that the quest may be bugged. It irritated me so much I decided to give it another 3 days. I checked my equipment at least 20 times. I had lv 10 blue gear across the board in a lv 7/8ish area. My spec was solid for the survival spec it was. My roommates ran it on a different "player recommended" spec and breezed through it. That spec would have required me to learn a weapon I had no interest in learning.
I stopped playing for awhile and discovered Minecraft, but my roommates carried on. They loved Transylvania. Eventually they wanted to "raid". They wanted tougher dungeons. >< That's when I began to associate the game with foul language and nerd rage. They needed very specific specs to get anything done. This eventually caused them to lose interest and drop the game too.
I decided to log in again after it went F2P. I am still truly impressed with the game. I felt motivated and inspired to try my luck at the quest again. I failed. I failed again. I failed for two days. The Secret World is a game in which players were promised they could eventually use all specs and completely customize their characters. A specific build should never be required to progress in story line in such a game. I understand the need to have AOEs. Every bloody weapon spec has an AOE or two. The second you require specific skills from a specific build, all that character customization became pointless. I love you Secret World. I truly do. Unfortunately, you've lost me and you lost my roommates as of March.
Yes, this is farewell. The information in past posts is still useful and I hope it helps players out. It's still an amazing game. I'm just not into yelling and screaming at a video game for over a week. Note to any game developers out there. If you tell folks there are 5 classes available and have required content that can only be completed by a specific class...you're not meeting your obligation to the player. :D
